Copywriting & Content Marketing

In the rush to get a website made or bring in more traffic to your site, you may have forgotten about one crucial aspect of online marketing……..

THE WORDS!

It’s amazing how much we ignore what we’re saying through our website, or how little.

It doesn’t matter what platform you plan to promote your business through. Emails, social media posts, content for SEO, blog posts, and native ads are all going to be bound by language and persuasion.

Now if you’d like to see some work I’ve done for others, please look at the links below…….

Copywriting……First off, it’s not the legal work of protecting intellectual property….

And secondly, it’s the not the same writing you did in Mrs. Elliott’s english class, okay?

Glad we got that out of the way!

I’m a copywriter, and I’m writing this section of my website to help you understand what I do do, and how it can help you connect with more of your prospective customers.

Copywriting & Content Marketing

Before you made your way over here to MKing Marketing, you probably visited a few sites like Elance, ODesk, iWriter, or Fiverr to find a decent copywriter.

I’ve heard of colleagues finding Dan Kennedy-like copywriters over there for pennies, but judging a service by its price is not the best way to find a decent freelancer.

(In case you don’t know, Dan Kennedy is basically the Michael Jordan of copywriting and digital marketing)

You can find workers on iWriter for instance who will bang out a 700 word article for $8 bucks, and copywriters on Elance who’ll drive down their price to below a penny a word to score a gig.

But why aren’t you judging someone by:

1) Their ability to write persuasively

2) Their willingness to thoroughly research a topic before writing and

3) Their understanding of your niche?

When you pay $1500 for a sales letter, or $500 for a 5 email sequence targeted towards your first time buyers………isn’t having a copywriter who can do those three things worth the extra money?

Especially when it means you’ll get a lot more business from this one piece of marketing than what you paid for it?

What Most Businesses Do Wrong & Why You Need A Copywriter

Lots of business owners see no need to explain what they do, or attempt to sell a stranger on their services for a very simple reason…….

To most of you, the benefits of working with you, instead of your lousy competitor, is obvious!

Just look around you! Right?……

Well, not exactly.

I recently did a website for a dentist where I live, and he only wanted to what payment methods he took, his hours, and where he was located……

I was trying to tell him, “You’re missing a big opportunity to educate your customers and let them bond with you!”

He needed a lot more information that would not only make him more qualified to do dental work in his customer’s eyes, but also a human being who they would feel safe hiring for a root canal or filling or whatever.

This takes work, but its like putting money into a 401k or going to the gym everyday.

You won’t notice returns immediately……..but after a few years you’ll thank yourself for working a little harder.

And as more businesses move their operations online, it’s more important than ever to do something to make yourself stand above and beyond everyone else.

How Journalism School Taught Me To Write

Before journalism school, I had written for my school newspaper, journaled extensively, and written lots of songs.

Most of it was pretty confusing, unstructured, and unclear.

Journalism school taught me to write as clearly as possible, use as many facts and voices as possible, and avoid cliches and stylistic devices that interfere with telling a good story.

The only problem was that social media platforms like Facebook and blogs like the Huffington Post were rapidly changing the way we take in information, which led to few jobs.

Hence why I’m now working as a copywriter!

Although I needed to learn how to sell through the written word, I retained one of the most important skills in all of marketing…..

Storytelling.

This is what transformed Apple, Subway, Uber, Ford, and many other great companies: they had an interesting story of how they investigated a problem in their marketplace, and delivered a solution.

What’ll Your Story Be?

The audience you’re trying to reach is constantly trying to box you into a market, and explain to themselves and their friends how your product or services helps them.

Or doesn’t help……

The lack of information about your business tells just as compelling a story as one that has skillful positioning and clever slogans.

It says that you’re not serious about selling.

It says that you expect your customer to take all the risk of trying your product.

It says that you’re afraid of being closer to your customer, which means you may not want to really help them.

And it says that there is nothing special about you or your business.

Is that true?

Of course not.

But you’ve gotta do a little work, and craft a message and an image about your product or business that can be spread across Facebook and Google.

Frequently Asked Questions

I Still Don’t Understand. Why Do I Need A Copywriter?

Okay listen…..

A copywriter does more than just fill your site with readable content….

A good copywriter will:

  • research your ideal customers, and get to know them in and out
  • create a sales message that resonates with them through various appeals
  • and make it all moving, readable, and effective
How Does Copywriting Influence SEO and Social Media, and Ultimately Sales?

Ever since the Panda, Penguin, Hummingbird, and Fred updates to Google’s search algorithm, all SEOs are starting to take well-written content a lot more seriously.

But even before Google came around, serious buyers would research a topic thoroughly to make a wise purchase.

And now with the advent of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, good content is needed to promote your website and just keep them there.

Metrics like your bounce and exit rate, your conversions, and more are all influenced by the quality of your sales message and the material that supports it.

This Is Why I Emphasize Copywriting In All My Services

Whether you hire me to do a website for you, or perform any other service for you…..you’re going to need some writing finished.

Knowing how to use a Facebook page is not enough.

Filling in meta title tags is not enough.

Even being able to write a cogent article is not enough.

It all must be tied together so they can synchronize.

What Niches Have You Worked In Before?

You name it, I’ve been involved in all sorts of niches from florists, real estate, restaurants and catering companies, dentists, and lawyers.

These internet marketing techniques work for everyone, as you can see in my testimonials.

Why Can’t I Just Write My Own Content?

You’re probably WAY too attached to your business to see it’s performance objectively.

Nobody wants to admit that they are losing potential customers due to a thin website.

Or that they don’t understand why their customers are coming to them already.

Also though, copywriting is a much different animal than simply educating a prospect about your service or product in a journalistic fashion.

Advertising is meant to create sales!

And to get sales, you must plan out every step of the process from where they first hear your name, step through the door or visit your site, and later get to the “buy” button.

What Should I Do Right Now?

Easy.

Tell me what your goals are for your business.

Do you want more traffic than what’s already coming to your website?

Do you need help converting the traffic you’re already getting?

Or do you just need content to fill out the areas beyond your logo?

Well, just contact me and tell me what you need.

I’m happy to talk to you and see if we’re a good fit!
